Description

MT 15

“We knew we wanted a low-wattage amp. The challenge was getting a lot of tone and features in a little box. We’re all blown away with how it turned out. It’s going to be great for someone to take it out of the box, set everything to noon, and have it sound great.”

– Mark Tremonti

The MT 15’s design started with heavier players in mind, but in the end, it has a lot to offer players of all genres. Like the PRS Archon amplifier, the MT 15 features five gain stages before the Master for full, lush distortion. The lead channel gets big, chunky tone with massive, tight low end, but it never loses its articulate note definition or great lead tone. The Lead channel also features a push/pull overdrive control that removes two gain stages to produce vintage, crunchier “mid gain” tones. The clean channel is bright and chimey, good with chords and fingerstyle playing – whether with a pick or not. The clean channel also features a push/pull boost control that adds a little overdrive for old school crunch. No matter what tone you dial in, the MT 15 stays balanced across the spectrum with a sweet, smooth tone that won’t bite your head off.

Additional features include an effects loop and bias adjusters that are accessible from the back panel for ease of servicing. Despite its 15 watts, the MT 15 sounds more like 50, so a half power switch that takes the MT to 7 watts is a welcome addition. Bottom line, the amount of features, the hugeness of the sound, and the raw horsepower of the circuit make the MT 15 an impressive lunchbox hero.

The MT 15 is Mark Tremonti’s first signature amplifier.

Featured Specifications

Number of Channels

The MT 15 is a 2-channel amp, offering extreme cleans to Tremonti’s signature high-gain tones. With a 3-band EQ for each channel and a pull-boost on the clean channel, the MT 15 allows players to master their tone.

Modern Design

Modern features include a Master Volume and Gain control for the Lead Channel, Treble Boost on the Clean Channel, Presence control, and a tube-driven effects loop.

Wattage

Even at 15 watts, the MT 15 is a powerful amp. It can easily handle small to mid-sized rooms, and the equipped half-power switch is a welcome addition for home use.

Controls

Pre-Amp Section – Lead & Clean Channels

Clean Channel Volume

The volume control increases the amp’s loudness as you turn it up.

Clean Channel Pull Boost

The clean channel features a push/pull boost control that adds a touch of gain, fullness, and harmonics.

Lead Channel Pull Overdrive

The lead channel features a push/pull overdrive control that removes two gain stages to produce vintage, crunchier “mid gain” tones.

T/M/B Tone Stack

This amp has a 3-band EQ for each channel.

Power-Amp Section

Presence (Global Control)

The presence control manipulates the negative feedback in the amp. Turning the presence control up releases more high-mid and treble, bringing the amp’s tone forward. Presence can change gain/texture and loudness of high-end, making your tone wilder and more 3D (or more “present”).

Lead Channel Master Volume

The lead channel Master Volume control increases the amp’s loudness as you turn it up. Use this in conjunction with the Gain knob, which dials in the amount of massive potential distortion you want. Used together, these two controls can help you create a warm, lush distortion at surprisingly high or low volumes.

The PRS Story

by Paul Reed Smith

The road from my workshop in a historic, haunted Annapolis garret to a state-of-the-art factory was a tough one. Fact is, I always loved working with my hands. Why else would a high school kid sign up for three or four shop classes at a time? My first guitar was built as a challenge to my college music professor for some credits. I got an “A” and decided to pursue my dream of making guitars for a living.

I remember hanging out at the local concert arenas for six or seven hours before a show to make friends with the roadies. With a backstage pass in hand, I’d peddle my guitars to the stars. One night in ten I’d make a sale. Carlos Santana, Al Di Meola, Howard Leese, and other well-known players agreed to check one out. I made deals. If someone gave me an order, made a deposit, and then didn’t love the finished guitar, I’d give them their deposit back even if I couldn’t make my rent the next day.

After getting a small following and orders for more than 50 guitars, we built two prototypes. I popped them in the back seat of my truck and called on guitar dealers up and down the East Coast. After many days and many miles, I came back with enough orders to start a company.

We’ve come a long way, with steady growth in factory capacity, employees, distribution, and the number of prominent artists using our instruments. We’re not stopping here. Every inch of your PRS guitar is based on decades of testing, rethinking, and reinventing. We continue to push the curve beyond what others would consider perfection. With experts to make sure the technology is unsurpassed, and dedicated craftspeople who guarantee a finished product you can’t put down. We make no compromises. That’s the story of the beginning of the journey. Not so short, but very sweet. The moral? Believe in your dreams.
