The story began in 1970 when Christian Nantel, (eldest son of the co-founders of Nantel Musique), age 16, began teaching piano at “Galipeau Musique” a music school in Montreal.
At the end of his first year of service, Mr. Galipeau offered Christian’s parents the possibility of opening a Galipeau branch in St-Jerome.
Mr. Jean-Marc Nantel and his wife Denise seized the opportunity and acquired one of the first “École de musique Galipeau” franchise, which specializes in teaching music and instrument sales.

It is in 1971 and in St-Jérôme that the company initially established itself to welcome its first customers.
1975
From the very first years of operations, the founding couple benefited from the support of their eldest son Christian. The small business quickly became successful and expanded with the opening of a second store at Place Rosemère.
A whole adventure begins!
1978
The company became independent and began to operate under the name of “École de musique Nantel” or “Nantel Musique”.
Over the years, the small family business quickly became a well-known and well-established SME and the adventure continues today after more than half a century.

1984
Nantel Musique’s operations are centralized at Centre 2000 in Laval.

1989
The company opens a store in Montreal, at 500 Saint-Zotique Street East

1995
Nantel Musique, faced with an ever-growing clientele, moves its Laval branch to 395 Saint-Martin Boulevard West in Laval. The new and more spacious premises allow to better meet the needs of our valued customers.

1996
Christian and Martin Nantel, both sons of the founder, were already involved in the day-to-day operations and management of the company and took over the reins to continue the adventure.
Denise and Jean-Marc, Christian and Martin Nantel: the 2nd generation takes over.
2008
Nantel Musique is moving its Montreal branch to 4590 Saint-Laurent Boulevard, in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal. This new location, in a popular area of the city, allows the company to further diversify its product line and offer a wider selection of instruments to Montreal customers.

2020
The Montreal branch undertakes several renovations to modernize its premises and expand its space to better serve its clientele.

2021
Nantel Musique proudly becomes the first musical instrument retailer in Canada to host a Roland Store in Store in its Montreal branch.
2022
The Laval branch undergoes major renovations and inaugurates a new piano showroom to offer customers a more modern environment and a new experience.
